WRENTHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Wrentham Police said a young boy drowned after going underwater in a family pool Saturday night.

They said first responders were called to 10 Hillside Drive in Wrentham just after 8:00 PM, and found that the one-year-old boy was already receiving CPR.

Police said the boy fell into the water during what they described as a "large family gathering," and was only under water for a short time before family members noticed and called 911. The boy was later identified by police as Angelo Nicoloro.

Despite efforts by the family and paramedics to save the boy, the boy was rushed to a hospital and later died.

Wrentham Police Chief Bill McGrath said he's seen cases like this before:

"The swimming pool in the yard is like having a bonfire in a yard...it's a dangerous thing when it's unattended," he said. The Norfolk County District Attorney is investigating the boy's death, but said that it did not appear suspicious.
