WENHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A North Shore firefighter is asking the public for help as he fights for his life.
Wenham’s Deputy Fire Chief Jeffrey Baxter has saved lives for a living for the past 21 years and now, he’s asking for someone to save his.
Recently, after some routine blood work, Baxter learned that he has advanced kidney disease. Doctors say his kidney function is next to nothing, and that he shouldn’t be lifting more than 5 pounds at a time.
For that reason, Baxter’s been sidelined on desk duty, while his team fights fires without him. “Watching them go out the door, just thinking about when they’re out on the call, I just hope they’re all safe,” Baxter said.
He adds a new kidney would be a great Christmas present.Neither his wife nor daughter can donate, so they’re asking the public for help. If you have O-positive or negative blood type and would like to help, you can find Jeffrey Baxter on Massachusetts General Hospital's Living Donor Website.
“I would love to be able to get back on the regular line and do what I’ve always done, help people,” Baxter said.
