More Than 5 Million Kids' Water Bottles Recalled Over Choking Hazard

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — About 5.7 million children's water bottles are being recalled due to a potential choking hazard, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The recall, announced Tuesday, affects Chicago-based company Contigo's Kids Cleanable Water Bottles in solid colors, with graphics, stainless steel, and stainless steel with graphics. The bottles come in 13oz, 14oz, and 20oz sizes.

The CPSC said the bottles' clear silicone spout can detatch and become a possible choking hazard.

There have been 149 reports of the spout detaching, and 18 of those reports included the spout being found in childrens' mouths.

They were sold at several stores, including Costco, Walmart, and Target.

In addition to the bottles sold in the United States, about 157,000 were sold in Canada and about 28,000 were sold in Mexico.

Anyone with the bottles is asked to stop using them, keep them out of the reach of children, and contact Contigo for a replacement lid at recall.gocontigo.com.
