BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — THE U.S. Postal Service has been bleeding money since 2006, after congress passed the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act.
The president of a U.S. postal service union is now calling out the postmaster general and accusing him of playing politics and trying to change the November election.
John Flattery, president of the American Postal Workers Union Local 4553, is frustrated. He said new 'cost cutting measures' such as delaying mail deliveries and a lack of overtime pay makes it harder to do their job. He does not believe it's only purpose is to save money.
"There's no more overtime, if a truck is late they send carriers out with whatever mail they have, if somebody calls in sick, that mail gets delivered tomorrow," Flattery said. "It's very discouraging to employees."
He said they need congress to pass sensible reform.
