SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Business has been brisk at the Camberville E-Bike Lending Library in Somerville.

The library is a free, not-for-profit service working to expand access to e-bikes in the area.

The business has a small collection of e-bikes that it lends to community members for up to a week, for free.

Co-owner Chris Schmidt said e-bikes are a great way to get around the Boston area, and they're fun, too. "You take people out on that first e-bike ride, and they immediately say how fun it is, and ask where they can get one," he said.

He also said that business has been growing steadily since they first started at the beginning of the year. "In October we loaned out bikes to 51 different people for a total of 1,450 miles ridden on our e-bikes." Schmidt said because most e-bike sales are on-line, it can be a challenge to try an e-bike before buying one.

The loaned e-bikes come with a lock, helmet, and charger.
