BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — MBTA Transit Police are looking for a group of juveniles who harassed passengers and smashed a train window Thursday night.

Police said the incident happened around 11 p.m. on a Red Line train near the JFK/UMass station in Dorchester, where several males taunted an Asian woman because of her ethnicity, then went after other riders who tried to intervene.

The group allegedly harassed and threatened to rob other passengers also based on their ethnicity, then smashed a train window and fled, said police.

According to authorities, Thursday's incident came two weeks after a man yelled racial slurs at an Asian woman and spat on her at the Broadway station.

"All of our public spaces must be safe for everyone," Boston Mayor Michelle Wu told WBZ NewsRadio Saturday. "It is completely unacceptable to have any form of threat or violence or even just a feeling of fear there."

"I think we need to be more aggressive on hate crime legislation, prosecuting people that assault anyone based on race or verbally harass someone based on race," said Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn.

Thursday's incident remains under investigation.
