BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Students in Boston Public Schools may be breaking a sweat over more than just a test this week.
The district's summer school program has begun -- and a new report finds that a majority of school buildings do not have any air conditioning systems.
According to the Boston Globe, only 29 out of all 63 BPS buildings have air conditioning.
In the other 34 buildings, teachers and staff are being advised to turn off overhead lights, crack open windows and use standing fans to get some air circulation.
It comes as students, teachers, and staff are still being required to wear masks and face coverings while inside district buildings.
Officials are encouraging program organizers to limit outdoor activities and find time to distance students so they can take face coverings off -- and students are being asked to wear light clothing.
The district has also reportedly distributed 600 to 800 fans to classrooms that do not have AC -- meaning each room would be equipped with about two fans.
