BOSTON (State House News Service) — About 6.6 percent of voters eligible to vote in the Massachusetts presidential primary have cast their ballots, state officials say.

Secretary William Galvin's office on Monday released statistics showing that more than 325,000 ballots have been cast.

Of those, 310,911 votes were cast using the vote-by-mail option, and 14,248 ballots were cast using the early voting system.

In Boston, 21,825 ballots have been cast while only five ballots have been submitted in the Bristol County town of Acushnet.

There are nearly 4.94 million voters registered to participate in the March 5 presidential primary.

Early voting for the primaries will run through Friday, March 1.

Saturday, Feb. 24 was the last day for voters to register to vote in the March 5 primaries - a push to allow voters to register and cast votes on election day again fell short in the Legislature last session.
