BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Ahead of Mother's Day, there was an extra special delivery for the obstetrics staff and new moms at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
Joyce Arrigo, Senior Vice-President of Wilmington-based medical device company Spectra, said she knows what it's like to work in the medical field.
"As a former Nurse myself, I feel a special bond for the heroic healthcare workers on the frontlines who perform vitally important duties for their patients and in doing so put their own lives at-risk during this COVID-19 global crisis," she said. "It’s my hope that this gesture lets them know, now more than ever, that they have our gratitude and respect."
Staff from Spectra Medical in Wilmington have been delivering about 700 lunches to the city's hospital staff since Easter. With Arrigo's daughter celebrating her own first Mother's Day this Sunday, she said she wanted to do something extra special for the new mothers and hospital workers during the pandemic.
"I was kind of thinking of my own mother," she told WBZ NewsRadio. "My father used to buy my mother flowers all the time.... and I figured maybe I can do something, and that's when I thought of the flowers."
With the help of Nunan's florists and Spinelli's in East Boston, the 150 lunches delivered to the hospital on Saturday also come with some beautiful potted bouquets for all the workers and new moms in Ante-Patrum, Post-Partum, Labor and Delivery, and NICU.
