BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) —   The Boston Police Fugitive Task Force, a division of the Boston Police Department, arrested a suspect in connection with a rental scam scheme.

The alleged suspect, who was identified as 23-year-old Vieira Ferreira, was arrested on Exeter Street in Boston Wednesday after detectives determined that he had scammed several victims through Facebook Marketplace after putting up a room for rent that he had already been living in. Ferreira would subsequently take payments from unsuspecting victims and would make excuses such as the room not being available at the time of move-in or would cease contact. According to a police report, Ferreira had received several notices from the rental company and still managed to advertise the room online and offered keys to his most recent victim.

The Task Force’s detective work led to police obtaining a warrant, which resulted in Ferreira’s arrest on Wednesday afternoon.
