Peabody Police Arrest, Accuse Man In Armed Masked Robbery At Kay's Jewelers

PEABODY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Monday, the Peabody Police Department announced that an arrest had been made in connection to an armed robbery at a Kay's Jewelers at the Simon Mall just hours after it happened.

Police say 27-year-old Starlin Batista of Peabody is under arrest for holding up the jewelry store with a gun while wearing a white "Ghostface" mask, all-black clothes, and a backpack with a note inside that read: “Put everything in the bag. I’ll give you two minutes before I shoot. Don’t make a sound.”

Officials say it wasn't long until an officer noticed the suspect matching the description of the robber near an access road of the mall property. Upon Batista's arrest officers say they found a black BB gun on his person along with the several necklaces and watches that were stolen from Kay's. Those items were promptly returned.

While police were out looking for the suspect, several stores went into lockdown as a precaution but opened back up once Batista was in custody.

Batista is charged with one count of armed masked robbery and a count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Police say no one was injured during the robbery. He's due to be arraigned in Peabody District Court Tuesday morning.
