NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — After a suspicious device forced the evacuation of a South End neighborhood on Friday morning, New Bedford police later confirmed it was an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
The bomb was found just before 7:00 a.m. on the porch of 65 Mosher Street, right next to the house's front door.
New Bedford Police and Fire responded, along with the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad. The Navy's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team out of Newport was also called to the scene.
Authorities confirmed it was an IED through x-ray imaging and the area was evacuated. Crews then conducted a controlled detonation and the bomb was destroyed without incident.
Police said no arrests have been made, and they are asking anyone with information to contact them at (508)-991-6300 to contribute to the ongoing investigation.
