Newton Police Searching For Missing Elderly Couple; Car Last Seen In N.Y.

NEWTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio)Update at 1:30 p.m. Sunday: Toshimichi and Lillian Shinohara have been found safe in Connecticut.

The Newton Police Department is searching for a missing elderly couple, authorities announced Sunday.

Police said Toshimichi Shinohara, 80, and his wife Lillian Shinohara, 76, were last seen leaving their son's home in Newton at approximately 12:22 P.M. on Friday. They were believed to be driving to Stow to pick apples before driving back to their house in Falmouth.

The couple was driving their 2012 black Volvo XC70 with the registration no. 4VY386, officials said.

The vehicle was last seen Saturday at around 10 a.m. on Rte. 84 in Brewster, New York, a village about 50 miles north of New York City.

Toshimichi is described as an Asian male with white hair and a white mustache, last seen wearing a beige jacket, blue jeans, and a beige baseball hat.

Lillian is described as an Asian female with black hair and a noticeably slow walk.

Police ask anyone who sees the couple or their vehicle, or has any information about them, to call 9-1-1 immediately or contact the Newton Police Department at (617) 796-2100.
