FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) – After clinching the top seed in Major League Soccer’s (MLS) Eastern Conference, New England’s soccer team could have a chance to bring another banner back to Boston.

For the first time in the club’s history, the New England Revolution will face off against New York City FC in postseason play. The Revolution will host New York City FC in the Eastern Conference Semifinals at Gillette Stadium Tuesday night.

This comes after the team completed a record-breaking season, finishing with 22 wins, seven draws, and five losses. This was the Revolution’s most successful season in the club’s 26-year-history, according to WBZ-TV.

NYCFC held the fourth seed in the conference after finishing the regular season with a record of 14-11-9. New England and NYCFC went head-to-head three times during the regular season, with the Revolution taking two of those three games.

The Tuesday night game will also mark the first time that New England hosts fans for a home playoff game since the 2014 Eastern Conference Championship.

Playoff matches will continually be held at Gillette if the Revolution keep advancing. If the club wins, they advance to the Eastern Conference Final for the second straight year and the ninth time in their history.
