Nearly 14,000 Coronavirus Tests Done In One Day

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — According to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, an additional 13,989 coronavirus tests have been administered over the past 24 hours.

About 15 percent of those people tested positive for the virus, bringing the state's total number of confirmed cases to 64,311. There were also another 154 deaths attributed to the virus, taking Massachusetts' coronavirus death toll up to 3,716.

DPH reports roughly 60 percent of the COVID-related deaths in the state have been reported in long-term care facilities.

Based on the number of confirmed cases, Middlesex County and Suffolk County are respectively the 14th and 16th hardest-hit counties in the nation according to Johns Hopkins University.

As the number of confirmed cases and deaths related to COVID-19 continues to climb, Gov. Baker signed an executive order requiring all Massachusetts residents over the age of two wear a face covering when outside and unable to socially distance.
