BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported another 1,292 confirmed cases of COVID-19 Friday, bringing the state's total number of confirmed cases to 154,521.
The state DPH also reported an additional 16 deaths among confirmed cases, upping the COVID-related death toll in Massachusetts to 9,766.
Upticks have been reported in several important coronavirus health metrics over the past month. The state's seven-day weighted average rate of positive molecular tests has risen to 1.9 percent, and the three-day average number of COVID-19 deaths in the state has doubled in the past three weeks.
There are currently 623 patients hospitalized with the virus in Massachusetts, 118 are receiving intensive care, and 53 are intubated.
According to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Research Center, the U.S. has more than nine million confirmed cases of the virus and more than 230,000 Americans have died of COVID-19 to date.
