BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Anatomically correct heart and lung emojis will soon be added to the smartphone keyboard along with over a hundred others later this year.
Dr. Shuhan He works in the emergency department at Massachusetts General Hospital. He proposed the realistic organs with the help of Jennifer 8. Lee, the co-founder of Emojination, a company aimed at making emojis more inclusive.
Dr. He said he believes these emojis will be used in the medical world to close gaps in language.
"We deal with a lot of patients in the emergency department that may not speak English," Dr. He told WBZ NewsRadio. "It's important for us to communicate in the language that patients have."
These emojis are indicative of a greater chance in the medical care landscape, according to Dr. He.
"I think a lot of what healthcare is going to is having digital health records and digital communication with patients," Dr. He said.
Other approved emojis include the transgender flag, a ninja, and a Dodo bird.
