Massachusetts Surpasses 150,000 Cases Of COVID-19

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health confirmed 1,137 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, bringing the state's total number of confirmed cases to 150,498.

The state DPH also confirmed another 36 deaths among positive cases of the virus, upping the COVID-related death toll in Massachusetts to 9,700. There have been an additional 224 deaths among probable cases of the virus.

The state's seven day weighted-average rate of positive molecular coronavirus tests has doubled in the past month to 1.8 percent. The three-day average number of patients hospitalized with the virus has also increased by more than 75 percent since the end of September.

According to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center, more than 8.8 million cases of the virus have been confirmed in the U.S., and more than 227,000 Americans have died of the virus to date.
