BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Saturday, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported another 1,886 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the state's total to 22,860 cases.
Gov. Baker has been urging residents to continue isolating at home, as experts predicted a surge in coronavirus cases starting this weekend. "The surge is going to land about when we thought it was going to land, which is somewhere between the 10th and the 20th," Baker said earlier this week.
According to the DPH website, which gives an update on the state of COVID-19 in Massachusetts every day at 4 p.m., there have been 6,404 new tests conducted statewide since Friday, for a total of 108,776 tests.
DPH also reported 87 additional deaths attributed to the virus, bringing the coronavirus-related total death toll in Massachusetts to 686. DPH reports 306 of those deaths were people in long-term care facilities.
Suffolk and Middlesex Counties have the highest rate of COVID-19 cases, with just under 5,000 cases in each county.
