Malden Lifts Winter Parking Restrictions — Due To Lack Of Snow

MALDEN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The City of Malden has put a hold on its winter parking restrictions amid a paltry amount of snow this season.

Malden Mayor Gary Christenson announced the lifting of the restrictions with a tongue-in-cheek meme predicting February would have crushing amounts of snow, "with a 90% chance I'm wrong."

The Malden Parking Department said the restrictions were set to go in to place with the first major winter storm, and stay there until April. But that snowfall has not materialized, and last month was historically warm.

Restrictions were technically put in place on Feb. 1, but officials told WBZ NewsRadio that no one had been ticketed before the city lifted them about a week later.

Residents were happy to hear that the restrictions were lifted, but were cautious that the city may have "jinxed" the forecast going forward.

"I actually hope for a snowstorm...besides the cold snap, it doesn't even feel that excited or wintery. I prefer it," said Lulu.

Outside of superstition, the long-range forecasts for February show a warmer-than-normal trend.
