BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Baker Administration reassured homeowners and renters on Friday that they will be "protected" during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We know you are worried, and we are going to do everything we can ensure nobody loses their housing because of this crisis." said Baker during a coronavirus update at the State House. "To be clear, this administration will be taking action in the coming days to ensure that homeowners and renters are protected."
Baker also reminded residents that eviction cases can not proceed until at least April 21 due to the state of emergency, which has forced the closure of Massachusetts trial courts. He also reminded homeowners that state law allows 90 days for them to make up any payment default on a mortgage.
Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito said the Baker Administration is also adding money to the newly created small business emergency fund due to the increased number of application pouring in.
"Many small businesses submitted applications, and today we're announcing another $10 million to add to that effort," said Polito.
