PEABODY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A North Shore ice cream maker recently snagged one of the country's tastiest awards.

Holy Cow Ice Cream Cafe won first place in the North American Ice Cream Association's 2022 Flavor of the Year contest with its Ritzy AF flavor.

"It’s got like a salty, buttery, toffee-ish flavor to the base," Holy Cow owner Mike Schifino told WBZ NewsRadio Friday. "Then we load it up with our homemade Ritz cracker bark: Ritz cracker, toffee, and chocolate coating."

Holy Cow, which has three shops in Peabody, Gloucester, and Salem, also took home third place with Easy Peazy, a lemon curd ice cream with chopped up pieces of lemon bar mixed in.

"There’s a lot of stuff that goes back to just desserts I was familiar with growing up," Schifino said when asked about his flavor inspirations.

With the popularity of Ritzy AF and other flavors skyrocketing, Schifino plans to open more shops and sell Holy Cow's ice cream wholesale.

"It’s been a fun, crazy ride for the past couple months," Schifino said. "We’re currently making gallons and gallons of [Ritzy AF] right now to try to keep up."
