BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced on Monday that some local organizations that grow food will be receiving a grant.
Ten Buy Local organizations were awarded $800,000 to help generate consumer awareness and demand for locally-grown food products. This grant will help to support farmers in the Commonwealth and leverage funding to support communities focused on environmental justice.
In a press release, the Healey-Driscoll administration said the grant will help address food security needs, providing fresh and healthy food for impoverished communities.
“Nourishing and healthy food is grown right here in Massachusetts, but not all of our residents have access to these local farms,” said Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Rebecca Tepper. “This funding will help bridge that gap by investing in our Buy Local organizations, farmers, and environmental justice communities. Everyone, regardless of race or income, deserves access to fresh, local products.”

Buy Fresh, Buy Local Cape Code: Barnstable, Mass.
Central Mass Grown: Worcester, Mass.
Sustainable CAPE: Truro, Mass.
Berkshire Grown: Great Barrington, Mass.
Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society: Tisbury, Mass.
Sustainable Business Network: Cambridge, Mass.
Essex Ag Society – Northeast Harvest: Topsfield, Mass.
Southeastern MA Agricultural Partnership: Dartmouth, Mass.
Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture: South Deerfield, Mass.
Sustainable Nantucket: Nantucket, Mass.
