BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Officials held a press conference Monday to discuss safety preparations for First Night Boston, the city's New Year's Eve celebration.
Boston Police Commissioner William Gross said there were no credible threats against the celebration, and said there would be uniformed and undercover officers in every neighborhood in the city, not just downtown.
Gross also said smoking marijuana in public was not allowed—and neither were drones. He also urged everyone to use public transportation.
"We want everyone to be our eyes and ears," Gross said. "Let's remember that this is our city, we protect it and we look out for each other."
Mayor Marty Walsh reminded the public that public drinking was not allowed.
"This is a family-friendly event," he said. "There's a lot of young people there, lot of young kids there. So, we're asking you to act responsibly, because little ones are there."
