SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — With prices up across the board in recent years, Christmas tree customers are feeling the effects.
The National Christmas Tree Association released a report saying that most people who plan on getting a tree this year will buy a fake one. For Ricky DiGiovanni of Ricky’s Flower Market, a fake tree should never replace a real one.
“It doesn’t have soul. There’s nothing like a real tree to bring into the house, just the smell, the aroma, knowing that it comes from the great north,” said Di Giovanni.
Even though he encouraged everyone to get a real tree, he recognized that the price has gone up a bit in recent years.
“We’re not immune to anything else in the economy. I think the trees are a few more dollars this year,” said Ricky DiGiovanni.
DiGiovanni said he still offers his trees for a reasonable price, enticing customers not looking to make the switch to fake ones.
“It’s good to get out and get the real tree. I don’t know what we would do with a fake tree. I don’t know where we’d put all our ornaments on it,” said one customer.
“It’s our first year getting a tree ever so we wanted to at least experience one year with a real one,” said another customer.
