Danvers Residents Organize Boot Camp Send-Off

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Robbie Murphy of Danvers is ready to serve his country. He just shipped out to San Antonio, Texas for Air National Guard basic training.

Due to social distancing measures amid the coronavirus pandemic, Murphy's family won't be able to watch him graduate boot camp in a few weeks, but his hometown stepped up to send him off in style.

Hundreds of Danvers residents hopped in their in cars and organized a rolling parade by Murphy's house on Monday. American flags were waved, kids cheered, and neighbors came out on their lawns to applaud from a safe distance.

"It was just unbelievable," Robbie's mom Mindy told WBZ NewsRadio. "The police department started the escort down our street and it just kept going and going."
