NY Man Charged In Boston Federal Court In Cruise Ship Assault

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Farmingville, New York man was charged in federal court in Boston after officials said he beat a woman on a cruise ship Thursday.

Adam Panetta, 45, is charged with one count of assault and one count of assault resulting in substantial bodily injury.

Prosecutors said in a release that Panetta was seen on surveillance video dragging a woman down a hallway by her hair on the Norwegian Cruise Line's Gem, while the ship was about 200 miles off the coast of New Jersey.

They said he later struck her in the face, apparently knocking her unconscious, and then kicked her as she crawled away.

She needed five stitches for her injuries.

He faces up to a year in prison and a fine of $100,000 for the assault charge, and up to five years and $250,000 for the assault resulting in bodily injury charge.
