Northeastern University Police: Stop Hosting Parties During COVID-19

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Northeastern University moved to online learning two weeks ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but campus police said some students who opted to stay at their rental properties are hosting loud, disruptive parties.

"While the vast majority of you have been ideal neighbors, we're learning from Boston Police that some college-aged renters are still having large social events inside of apartments," NUPD wrote in a message to the school community Monday. "The noise from these social gatherings is disruptive to neighbors and, given the current COVID-19 crisis, the close proximity is also a risk to personal health."

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh even mentioned a moratorium on "house parties" last week in his address to the city amid the coronavirus response.

"Remember this is not a time for house parties, play dates or visiting friends," Walsh said. "We need everyone to limit their contact right now.”

NUPD reminded those who go to the university and live in the city's neighborhoods to be "Students Making Accountable Responsible Thoughtful neighbors (#SMARTneighbors)" duirng this time of social distancing and self-isolation.
