BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Friday the Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported an additional 1,239 confirmed cases of coronavirus, bringing the state's total number of cases to 83,421.
The state DPH also reported another 110 deaths attributed to the virus, for a total of 5,592 COVID-related deaths in the state so far. More than 60 percent of those deaths have been reported at long-term care facilities.
Two data points remained low on Friday, both of which Gov. Baker has said are important in considering a gradual reopening of the state. According to the DPH, Massachusetts' COVID hospitalization rate is hovering at three percent, and the rate of positive test results is 11 percent.
Starting Monday May 18th, the Baker-Polito administration is planning the first part of a 4-phase plan to gradually reopen the state economy, although Gov. Baker has not detailed which industries or businesses that might include.
