NEWBURYPORT, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — With Massachusetts residents facing subzero temperatures Saturday morning, there was no better time to enjoy a scoop or two of ice cream for breakfast.

Hungry customers at Hodgie's Too in Newburyport braved the dangerously cold weather to celebrate National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day, an informal holiday which falls on the first Saturday of February. Some were lining up before the ice cream stand even opened.

"7:48, we had people waiting at the window for us to open at 8:00," Hodgie's Too owner Macauley Moscato told WBZ NewsRadio.

Moscato came up with several special breakfast-themed flavors to celebrate the holiday, including Blueberry Muffin (vanilla with blueberry muffins and blueberry swirl), Farmhouse Feast (sweet cream with bacon, biscuits, and maple syrup), and Breakfast of Champions (coffee with little chocolate donuts).

"It’s a sense of adventure," said John, who drove 30 minutes from Haverhill to enjoy the Biscuits & Jam flavor. "It’s really good. Very creamy, very tasty."

"It’s the coldest it’s been in apparently 65 years, so I figure it’s the day to get ice cream," said one parent who brought his two children with him.

Hodgie's Too in Newburyport is located at 251 Low St. There are two other Hodgie's locations in Salisbury and Stratham.
