BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new study from the Center For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that fewer kids are turning to e-cigarettes.
10 percent of middle school and high school students reported that they currently use e-cigarettes in 2023, down from 14.1 percent in 2022. The number of students using any tobacco product also decreased from 16.5 percent in 2022 to 12.6 percent in 2023.
The most commonly reported brand of e-cig used by those responding to the survey was Elf Bars, followed by Esco Bars and Vuse. The majority of e-cig users used fruit and candy-flavored products, as opposed to unflavored ones.
The study surveyed 22,069 children from sixth grade to seniors across 179 schools. Although one of the limitations of the study was social desirability, previous studies have shown consistency between reported e-cig use and biomarkers of tobacco use.
