BRAINTREE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A town on the South Shore is taking action to make the game of Pickleball quieter.
Neighbors have been complaining about the loud racket coming from the eight pickleball courts at Hollis Field in Braintree.
Flanked by homes on one side, an apartment building on the other, neighbors like Maggie said 'enough is enough'. "I will tell you, you do hear that pop," she said.
For months town officials have been trying to come up with an answer.
And now, the town has approved $22,000 to install sound-absorbing panels around the court.
Some say the decision to install the eight-foot-high acoustic panels is a good first step.
Janice Barris, of the Braintree Pickleball Association, said the two-layer panels should reduce noise from the courts by 10 decibels.
