Braintree Police Officer, Shot Last Week, Released From Hospital

BRAINTREE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — One of the Braintree Police Officers who was shot during a domestic violence incident last Friday has been released from the hospital.

Officer William Cushing Jr. was honored with a procession Friday morning as he left the hospital. He was escorted by Braintree Police and his police K-9 family.

Cushing and Braintree Officer Matthew Donoghue were injured while responding to a report of domestic violence. Gunfire was exchanged after the suspect fled into woods near McCusker Drive armed with multiple handguns.

Braintree Police K-9 Kitt was killed. The suspect also died, who was identified as 34-year-old Andrew Homen, of Brockton.

“There’s so much hate in the world, so why not show some love," said one attendee of the procession.
