BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — At the beginning of Spring Training in Fort Myers, Florida, the Boston Red Sox answered a number of questions on the troubled dirty waters of the latest regular Major League Baseball season.

With the first workout on Wednesday, WBZ's Jonny Miller is there in attendance for what is his 52nd Spring Training of his career.

While there, Miller spoke to Manager Alex Cora about Red Sox's less-than-favorable end to the 2022 season, where Boston finished last in the American League East and lost several big name players to free agency in the off-season. Miller asked Cora what the key is for the team to move forward.

"Just get better— bottom line we need to get better in every aspect of the game. Obviously, we struggled last year and a lot of things, and we have to clean that up and be ready for it. It's going to be a challenging season— we play in the toughest division of baseball. But like I always said, you go out there, you play good baseball, you get a chance," Cora said.

On the Red Sox AL East last-place standing, Cora said he's not surprised how the rankings came out.

"The way we played last year I don't blame them," Cora said.

With the team's inconsistency over the last couple years and turbulent roster structure heading into this year, Miller asked Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom if he thinks his job is on the line.

"It's a good question, I haven't thought about that. I don't think about things that way— not something I think is productive to think about, not something I can control. What I control is trying to put us in a position to win and position to do what we're trying to do, which is make our fans happy. So that's what I've been focused on," Bloom said.
