FALL RIVER, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - A 40-year-old from Fall River will spend the next two years behind bars after assaulting an elderly couple at a gas station last year.

Back on September 2nd, 2022, Fall River police responded to the New World Gas Station on Milliken Blvd. for a reported altercation. When officers arrived, they discovered two victims, a man and a woman, were injured. The alleged assailant had already taken off. The female victim told authorities while her husband argued with a woman at the gas pump, a man, later identified as Roderick Dixon, approached them and began hitting him in the head until he was forced to the ground. The woman tried to intervene but was shoved and fell, hurting her wrist.

The couple was taken to St. Anne's Hospital for their injuries.

"During an interview with Fall River Police, the defendant corroborated being involved, stating he was coming to the defense of a young lady he alleged the male victim was yelling at, before the argument became physical," the Bristol County District Attorney's office said in a release. "The defendant stated he "saw red" and kept punching the victim."

Dixon pled guilty in Fall River District Court and was sentenced to two years in the Bristol County House of Corrections, with nine months to serve.

“This is another example of the senseless violence that occurs far too often in our society. I am pleased the defendant will be held accountable for his violent actions,” District Attorney Thomas Quinn said.
