PLYMOUTH (WBZNewsRadio) - Plymouth Firefighters took on a 2-acre brush fire on Wednesday afternoon amid a red flag warning and extreme fire conditions.

In just the last week, a number of communities across the state have tackled brush fires, fueled by strong winds and dry conditions. Gloucester, North Attleboro, Burlington, Leominster, and Plymouth have all battled windswept fires. In fact, it's been quite the year for wildfires in the state. DCR said in 2023 alone, there have been roughly 240 wildfires in the state, covering over almost 250 acres.

Yesterday's wildfire in Plymouth broke out around 2 o-clock and called for all hands on deck. Firefighters from Carver covered the West Plymouth Fire stations while crews responded to the blaze. Off-duty firefighters were also called in to help.

Using six brush trucks and two tankers, officials were able to get the fire knocked down within an hour.

However while the fire was burning, nearby Rt. 3 had to be closed down several times.

Thankfully no one was injured during the fire and no structures were damaged.
