BOSTON (WBZNewsRadio) - A 25 year old student at Berklee College of Music has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston in connection with allegedly stalking and threatening someone who placed fliers supporting democracy in China in and around the college campus.

Xiaolei Wu faces one count of cyberstalking and one count of interstate transmissions of threatening communication.

According to charging documents, between Oct. 22 and 24 of 2022, Wu, who is a Chinese national, made numerous communications via social media and email towards the victim, who posted fliers which read "Stand with Chinese People," along with "We Want Freedom," and "We Want Democracy" on campus. In the communication between Wu and the victim, Wu allegedly wrote, "Post more, I will chop your bastard hands off."

Wu also allegedly told the victim that he had reported the victim to the public security agency in China and that the agency would "greet" the victim's family. Aside from the threats, Wu also allegedly sought help from others as to where the victim was living. Wu also posted the victim's email address publicly, to encourage additional online abuse.

Wu was arrested on Dec. 13, 2022 and charged by criminal complaint with one count of stalking.

Cyberstalking and interstate transmissions of threatening communication both carry a sentence of up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.
