BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Former Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins is now the U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts, after being sworn in on Monday in a private ceremony at the Moakley Federal Courthouse in Boston.
Rollins will be the first Black woman ever to hold the office. The Suffolk DA faced fierce opposition from Senate Republicans since her nomination by President Biden in July, eventually needing a vote by the full Senate to be confirmed last month.
Rollins said she requested a federal security detail because she was receiving threats to her life, but that request was denied. She was first elected in 2018.
Gov. Charlie Baker has already picked Rollins' successor to serve out the rest of her term: Sex Offender Registry Board Chairman Kevin Hayden. He will serve as the Suffolk County D.A. until another is elected in November.
