CLARKSBURG, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The family and friends of a fallen U.S. Capitol Police Officer will hold a golf tournament to raise money in his honor this upcoming fall.
Officer Billy Evans was killed this past April when he and another officer were hit by a car that rammed a steel barricade at the U.S. Capitol. Evans was the sixth Capitol Police officer to die in the line of duty in the department's 200-year history.
To honor his memory, Evans' friends and family are holding the Billy Evans Memorial Golf Tournament, which will take place on October 2. The event will take place across the border from Evans' Clarksburg hometown in Stamford, Vermont. The money raised by the event will go towards the "Billy Evans Memorial Scholarship."
Childhood friend Michael Bua told Masslive the scholarships would go toward Berkshire County high school seniors who reflect Evans' values. Bua announced on Sunday that the Tournament had completely filled up.
