Nightside with Dan Rea - Rundown for May 12, 2020

$2,000 For Everyone - Almost. Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey, along with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and California Sen. Kamala Harris have introduced a bill they call the Monthly Economic Crisis Support Act, which would provide monthly checks in the amount of $2,000 to most Americans. The bill would allow for payments throughout and three months after the pandemic ends and be retroactive to March. Is this really a good idea? Where does the money come from?

Vote By Mail. The Coronavirus pandemic is being used as an excuse to revamp the electoral system by introducing widespread voting by mail. In Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin wants to expand early voting and allow mail ballots for the September primary and November general election in the face of a COVID-19 resurgence in the Fall. Is this a good idea? Do you trust election results by mail?
