Fairhaven Nursing Home Patient's Health Improves With Visits From Husband

FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Love is considered a healing power in the recovery of a woman sick with coronavirus while in a rehabilitation center.

82-year-old Harriet Spach was admitted into Alden Court Nursing Care & Rehabilitation Center a couple months ago for short-term rehab, where shortly after, she contracted COVID-19.

Director of Nurses Shannon Danforth said Spach's health quickly declined as she was isolated from others.

"Really starting to fail, things didn't look good and we were concerned she might not make it," Danforth said.

But, Spach's health made a "complete turnaround recovery" according to Danforth, once Spach was moved to a room with a window where she could see her husband.

"Her husband and her dog came to the window, within 24 hours she started eating and drinking again," Danforth said. "It was miraculous to watch."

Spach was discharged from the facility with balloons and music, and her husband was waiting for her in the parking lot with flowers.
