BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new report says Boston University is investigating possible cheating by students now that classes, exams, and quizzes have moved online.
The BU student newspaper, The Daily Free Press, reports the allegations have to do with the app Chegg — a subscription-based tutoring service where students can send in questions and get an answer back.
Professors in physics and chemistry departments, as well as university officials, are working with Chegg on the investigation after evidence came out that students in those departments were using the app to cheat on quizzes.
According to The Daily Free Press, an email was sent out to students in the physics and chemistry departments saying if they admit to cheating, their grade will be dropped a letter grade. Students who do not come forward, and are caught, will fail the course.
Chegg's website states students are prohibited from using it to cheat, and they'll cooperate with any university investigation into potential cheating.
