Are You Using The Right Hand Sanitizer To Help Prevent Coronavirus?

(WBZ NewsRadio) — As the coronavirus continues to spread in the United States and around the globe, many are looking to buy or make their own hand sanitizer in an effort to prevent getting sick.

CBS News reports that many hand sanitizers, and ingredients to make DIY hand sanitizers, are selling out.

But, what is the best hand sanitizer to use to help prevent the virus from spreading? The CDC recommends an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

In one DIY recipe, some individuals used Tito’s Handmade Vodka to make hand sanitizer. The company, however, has warned against doing so.

“Tito’s Handmade Vodka is 40% alcohol, and therefore does not meet the current recommendation of the CDC,” the company tweeted last week.

The CDC says that “soap and water are the best option if hands are visibly dirty,” and to wash your hands frequent for “at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing; going to the bathroom; and before eating or preparing food.”
