BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Police are investigating a shooting in Hyde Park early Tuesday morning that left one man seriously injured.
The shooting happened at Reddy Avenue and Frazer Street shortly after 2 a.m., near Ross Playground.
So far, police have not identified any suspects.
Vietnam veteran Sam McGuire was awoken by the gunfire. He says the violence isn’t new, but he is tired of it.
“All this needs to stop. We are among ourselves. We are people of color in this neighborhood; we are multi-cultured people here in this neighborhood and we need to stand together,” McGuire said. “We are neighbors. I’ve been here some 1990, and people need to change the way that things are going. I can’t do this.”
McGuire says every time he hears a gunshot, he’s taken back to Vietnam.
"Gunshots will always upset me no matter what," he said. "I can't tell you how many I heard, but there's nothing unnatural about that around here. It seems to be slowed down for a little while, but it's taking back up again."
This was the second shooting in Boston in less than eight hours.
Boston Police are currently investigating after a man was shot to death in Mattapan Monday evening around 7:30 p.m. in the area of Delhi and Violet Streets.
Authorities say they found the man with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police have yet to identify any suspects. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Boston Police Department.
