Fines To Go Up For Consuming Alcohol On Dennis Beaches

DENNIS, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The town of Dennis has increased fines for consuming alcohol on the beach.

The first offensive has gone up to $100 from $50. The second offense will now be a fine of $300.

Dennis Selectman Chris Lambton voted in favor of increasing the fines this week. He told WBZ NewsRadio that it is a matter of public safety.

“It's a recipe for disaster with drinking in the ocean," He said "It's a lot of responsibility on the lifeguards and people protecting the beaches."

However, random cooler checks will no longer happen at beaches in Dennis this summer. The town came under fire for the checks last year and were warned by the American Civil Liberties Union to stop them.
