FALL RIVER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Paul Coogan overwhelmingly won Fall River's mayoral election on Tuesday, garnering 79.4% of the vote.

Embattled incumbent Jasiel Correia, who is on indefinite leave and facing federal charges of fraud and extortion, received only 7.47% of the vote.

Coogan, a two-time member of the city's school committee, thanked his supporters at a rally held after the polls closed.

"Thank you for not giving up on me and more importantly for not giving up on Fall River," Coogan said. "Your votes today show how much you care and believe that Fall River can be repaired both physically and emotionally."
