PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (WBZ-AM) -- While stumping for Democrats at a rally in Rhode Island Sunday, former Vice President Joe Biden said an FBI investigation into sexual assault claims against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is crucial.

He said he believes Dr. Christine Blasey Ford's accusations are credible, and called for the agency to investigate them.

"Dr. Ford deserves a full, robust investigation," Biden said to cheers. "But more than that, the Supreme Court deserves that."

The former VP took aim at the Senate Judiciary Committee after last week's contentious hearings.

"We witnessed from the Republicans on the Judiciary Committee a degree of invective, blind rage, and brute partisanship that threatens not only the Senate and the Supreme Court," he said. "It threatens the basic faith American people have in our institutions."

Biden's comments from the 1991 Anita Hill hearings are now being used against Democrats in the Kavanaugh hearings. Biden spoke against FBI reports, saying the agency does not reach a conclusion and anyone who thinks an FBI report is worth anything "obviously doesn't understand anything."
