BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Red Sox manager Alex Cora watched his new righty Nathan Eovaldi put on a show in yesterday's 3-0 win over the Twins. Seven innings, four hits, five strikeouts, no walks.
"He was very efficient," Cora said. "What a great way to start his career with the Red Sox."
"I feel like I had all my pitches really working," Eovaldi said. "I was able to mix in the curveball a lot more than I have in the past. The fastball and cutter were there, the slider felt really good, and I threw some decent splits as well."

Eovaldi's new teammates Jackie Bradley Jr. and J.D. Martinez are excited.
"He was amazing," Bradley said. "Any time you get a guy on the mound like that with that type of stuff, filling the zone up, it was a lot of fun playing behind him and I'm glad he's on our side."
"He's definitely what we need," Martinez said. "We've had some injuries, so to get another starter, especially of his caliber, I think it'll really help us out."
Baseball's non-waiver trade deadline is tomorrow, so we'll see if Boston adds anyone else. But, for now, this hurler's just looking forward to facing his old team from New York next.
"I like pitching against the Yankees, and I feel like it's the competition I look forward to the most," he said. "I know being a part of the Yankees, and the rivalry and everything, and how the fans really get into it."
Eovaldi's started one career game against the Bombers, last year. He gave up five runs in seven-and-a-third innings.
