SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — The Massachusetts man shot by a police officer he had allegedly struck with his car is heading to court.

The Republican newspaper reports that 24-year-old Geovonny Hernandez, of Springfield, is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday following his release Monday from the hospital where he had been since he was shot July 3.

Hernandez faces 22 charges including assault and battery with intent to murder.

Police say Hernandez was driving a stolen car when he was stopped during a drug investigation. Investigators say he drove at and struck Officer Darrin Fitzpatrick, who ended up on the vehicle's hood. Fitzpatrick fired one shot while on the hood, striking Hernandez.

Fitzpatrick was treated and released from the hospital that day.

It could not be determined in Hernandez has a lawyer.
