Former High School Dean Gets 26-Year Sentence For Shooting Student

The former English High Scool Dean Shaun Harrison, convicted of shooting and nearly killing his student Luis Rodriguez, was sentenced to 23 - 26 years behind bars this morning.

Rodriguez' aunt, Diana, gave a tearful victim impact statement addressing the defendant. "We send our children to school in hopes they are inspired to learn more, to do better, to be better. You, Mr. Shaun Harrison, almost took that opportunity away from this wonderful young man."

The judge talked about the seriousness of the crime, betrayal of the public trust, and gave the 58-year-old Harrison a higher-than-expected sentence.

"If he had the opportunity, I believe from the bottom of my heart he would abuse his power and do this again," Rodriguez' aunt continued. "I request Mr. Harrison receive the maximum penalty. May God forgive you sir, because we will not."

After sentencing, the judge took the unusual step of asking to speak privately with the victim, Luis Rodriguez, who miraculously survived a shot in the back of the head.
